Why Adding Pictures To Your Blog?

12  Good Reasons To Add Images To Your Blog Posts

In case you missed it, in the first article of this post series, I share time-saving tips and ideas for post-writing. Make sure you read it so you save even more time! 😉

Of course, we want our blog posts to look nice, and of course, we want them to be attractive!

That’s why we should add at least three or four images to each of our posts or more if your post is more than 3000 words (which means a lot of pictures!)

But images play other roles too.

They will:

  1. Emphasize some of your words!
  2. Highlight the main points of your post!
  3. Brake those big words’ walls!
  4. Add color to your blog posts!
  5. Keep your readers’ attention!
  6. Ensure visitors stay longer on your blog!
  7. Make your readers smile!
  8. Create an emotion/reaction!
  9. Break the monotony of a long post!
  10. Sometimes add a little more information!
  11. Help your readers understand your real thoughts!
  12. Add personality to your blog!

You now see the benefits of adding the perfect images to your blog posts, don’t you? 😉

Not to mention that adding images to your blog posts is also good for SEO! As long as you make good use of the alt text you’ll add to describe the picture. It’s a great place to add keywords so M.Google find your post and display it on the first page. ( Because, yes! Ranking on Google’s first page is possible even for older bloggers like us! If I can make it, so can you! 😉) Find out how I rank on Google’s first page at 57 years old! Ok, stop bragging! ha! ha! Let’s get back to our blog post images!

I know! One of the most time-consuming tasks as a blogger is to find THE perfect images for our blog posts!

I used to spend almost as much time finding images than writing my posts! What a waste of time!

But thank God! I developed a few time-saving techniques, and I now get all my pictures in less than an hour! 🙂

Stay tuned because not only will I share where and how I find images but also how to create some great pictures for free (yes, yes! I created them! 😉)

Curious, aren’t you? ha! ha!

Where To Find The Best Images For Your Blog Posts

As you know, it’s pretty easy to find pictures online. There are many places, such as Unsplash, Creative Market, or Pixabay…

But my favorite is Deposit Photos. I use it since the beginning, and I love it!

Yes, there are places where you can find free stock photos, but to tell you the truth, I prefer to pay for my images.

Why? Because…

  1. Better quality photos
  2. Bigger variety, more choice
  3. Not every blogger will use the same image ( ha! ha! We all like to be unique, aren’t we?)
  4. And, most importantly, I’m sure to be able to use them legally! I don’t know if you ever read articles about How to use pictures on your blog legally… but it’s a little scary though! We never know when someone will sue you! Better stay away from that! 😉

So yes, it costs a little, but it’s worth it!

Deposit Photos offers good deals and promotions almost every month. And they usually have a big promotion for Black Friday. I always take advantage of this sale, and I buy a big bunch, so I have images for the next year.

Actually, you buy credits for “Future Downloads” that you can use at any time for photos, videos, or vectors whenever you need some…and these credits never expire, which I love! 🖤

**Be careful with the images you add to your blog posts because they can slow down your website, and believe me, the last thing you want is a slow website!

I always use Tiny PNG to compress and optimize my images before I add them to my folders and then to my blog posts. I suggest you do the same. It costs almost nothing, and it’s the best way to ensure your pictures won’t slow your website down! 😉I use the pro version, but the free one works well, too!**

How To Save Time Finding The Perfect Images For Your Posts

Work in batches and get organized!

Ha! Ha! Easy, right?

I will explain how to work in batches now and come back a bit later on the organization part 😉

So, how to work in batches to find images and photos?

My two main sources for images are Deposit Photos and Canva (I will also share my favorite way to use Canva later 😉).

Usually, I type in a few keywords, and then I go through the selection of photos they propose.

Then, I buy at least 5 or 6 (sometimes more!) of the pictures I see.

I’m sure to use them in my posts or for promoting on social media…Have you ever counted how many images we need for our Pinterest pins? Zillions!! Better have a big stock, right?

Once I’m done with these, I will do another research with other keywords and then repeat the same process. I will continue until I have a big bunch, sometimes up to 50 images.

It rarely takes me more than an hour!

And now that I have a big bunch of lovely photos, I tweak them a little to create new ones or crop them to use only a section of the pictures (that’s another way to save time and a bit of money, too! 😉).  What’s crucial here is to have tons of images for future posts or pins!

How To Create The Perfect Free Images To Save Time & Money

Of course, the best way to create very unique images is by using your own camera and taking your own photos!

But because not all of us (including me!!) are great photographers, we have to cheat a little to create unique images. ha! ha!

When I share recipes in a post, I have no choice but to take my own pictures.

Have a look a some of my first posts: My Top 10 Favorite Make-Ahead Desserts or My Best Easy Recipes For A Simple Buffet… You will find out why I said I wasn’t a great photographer! ha! ha!

Very poor quality photos, even though I spent over $700.00 on a new camera!

I thought I would become the best photographer on Earth with this lovely camera. ha! ha! I was so wrong! Clearly, the problem is behind the camera!! Oh well! I can’t be good at everything, right?

Plus, taking your own pictures when you’re not a specialist is very time-consuming! I was taking about 50 photos for each recipe! Phew! I quickly realized that I had to find other ways to create unique images!

How to create unique images using Canva

Just in case you don’t know about Canva yet, it’s a free design tool. I should say my favorite tool! Gush, I spend so much time on Canva!

I use it to create images, but I also make all my Pinterest pins with Canva. Remember? Zillions of Pinterest pins! ha! ha!

Of course, you can use the free version, but because I use it a lot, I decided to go with the Pro version. It gives us more options and a bigger selection of fonts and images. It’s totally up to you to choose what’s best for you 🙂

So now, how do I use Canva to create unique pictures? Let me share my favorite tips!

But first, here are some of the other things I also do with Canva to save time

  • I create folders for my favorite images
  • I also create a folder for stickers and graphics I like
  • I often use their templates as a base for a new image, pin, or any other project
  • I use their photos, of course (they have a lot!)
  • I upload some of my own pictures
  • I also upload the images I buy on Deposit Photos

But my favorite, favorite way to use Canva is to tweak pictures! How I love it! 🙂

Let me show you how I do this!

First, here’s a picture I took from the Elements in Canva by searching with the keywords mature-woman-doubting. Right after is what I did with it! (😉and it took me less than 2 minutes!)

And now, see what it looks like after I removed the background and added a few Canva Elements.

Pretty cute, right?

You won’t believe how easy it is to work with Canva! Really! Even if, just like me, you have no talent for design!

They offer so many photos, graphics, shapes, and fonts that it’s impossible you can’t create the perfect lovely images! Take the time to play around and try the different options Canva offers, and believe me, it will soon become your favorite tool, too!

Yes, I use Canva a lot! I like it so much, and it makes me save so much time that an entire article of this Time-Saving post series will be dedicated to Canva 😉 The Very Best Canva Hacks to Save Time! I’m sure you don’t want to miss it!

And More Time-Saving Ideas…

Organize Your Pictures To Save Time

a filing cabinet to organize your images and save time!

Just like anything else, blogging requires Organization!

The more organized you are, the more efficient you will be!…and being efficient also means saving time! 😉

So now, how to organize your pictures and photos to save time?

I use folders, of course! Many folders!

I remember when I was regrouping all my images in one single folder called Blog Images. Oh, my gush! I was wasting so much time going through every image every time I needed one! Phew!

Now, I have many folders. Because I blog about different topics, I have a folder for each of them.

But I also have other folders where I keep images for my pins, images that I cropped, and even a folder for all the images I like but are not related to any of my topics… I know I will use them one day because they are cute photos!

To make research easier, give a name to each picture you store in your folders. Use keywords in your title so you can search them with a few words instead of going through each of them.

As an example, I have a folder for smiley mature ladies. Some are women with laptops, while others are women holding a cup of coffee or a clock. I make sure to add these words in my picture titles.

So, when I search for a lady working on her blog, I search for Women-Laptops. Easy peasy, right? 🙂

No matter how many folders you have, the trick is to use them! Yes, you will spend a few minutes sorting them out, but you will save so much time after!

**Having a good Blog Plan will also make you save a LOT of time!! Why not use mine? 🙂 I have used it since the beginning and just couldn’t live without it!
