What Is Canva?

For those who are not familiar with Canva or don’t know about Canva, well, Canva is a designer tool to help you design better and faster.

Canva.com says that their users work smarter, not harder…And I think they are right!  🙂

You can create almost anything on Canva (more to come in a second! I will tell you all I do with it!)

Yes, you can save time using Canva for free, but because I use Canva almost every day, I went for the Pro version.

Even though Canva offers a huge selection of free templates, fonts, images, and other elements, the Pro version gives you access to everything!

So yes, it costs a bit of money, but believe me, it’s worth every penny I spend on it!

I just love Canva! Period! (ha! ha! And they don’t even pay me to say it!) ❤️

*Disclosure: I may receive a small commission if you make a purchase through one of my affiliate links, of course, at no additional cost to you!  I share and promote only products I use, trust, and love! 🖤 Products I know you will love, too! 😉Please read our disclosure for more information.

My Favorite Canva Tips & Hacks

Now, time to share my favorite Canva tricks!

There are so many possibilities with Canva.

I’m not pretending to be a Canva expert, but these are some of the things that work well for me. They make me save time and help me create lovely designs.  (Ha! Ha! They make me feel like a pro! )

  • Background Remover

This is probably my favorite-favorite one!

How many times do we find the cutest image but with the wrong background color? Or simply the wrong background itself? With this amazing tool, you can remove any background in seconds!

See below; I show you the same image before and after removing the background:

Some other fabulous Canva tips!

  • Flip images (horizontally or vertically) by clicking on the Flip button.
  • Enlarge the image to work on small details by moving the black dot on the bottom of the screen.
  • Use frames for pictures and images.
  • Use the Magic Element Canva proposed to you. I always find great things there!
  • Transparency button to create special effects.
  • Change the color of an element: if you see a small square in the bar on top of your design, it means you can change the color. Click on that square and select the color you want. For some elements, you might see more than one square, which means you can change all colors separately.

Now, some tools you’ll find in the Edit Photo Section; again, you’ll see this option in the top bar.

  • Crop images: to tweak any image and fit it perfectly to your design.
  • Filters
  • Fx Effects, such as shadows or blur. These are great for adding the wow effect to any image!
  • Magic Eraser: another great tool to remove some parts of the image that you don’t like. See below. I used the same image as before, but I removed the clock. Pretty useful, isn’t it?

And if you tweak your design and don’t like the changes you made, no worries! Simply use the “Go Back Arrow” or “Undo.” That will bring you back to where you were before! 😉

The trick here is to use all the functions Canva proposes! You will see them in the top bar or by right-clicking on the element or the design itself. Take a few minutes to play with them and get familiar. You’ll be surprised about all you can do!

Save Time With Canva Templates

Oh, my Gush! Canva has tons of templates to choose from!

What better way to save time than using a template?!

Using templates instead of starting your design from scratch will save you tons and tons of time! How I love saving time!! ha! ha!

Keep in mind that a template is a base. You can change the colors, the fonts, and the pictures, and you can also move everything around!

Canva offers a lot of free templates, but of course, the Pro version gives you access to absolutely everything! The small crown on the bottom of each element or template indicates that it’s available for  Canva Pro only.

No matter the project you want to create, you’re sure to find the perfect template here!

Canva Tips To Enhance Your Designs

Again, there are a lot of possibilities here!

I just love adding a bit of effect to my designs to create a WOW effect! ha! ha! To do that, I mainly use the Effect Button!

  1. Effects for fonts and text: to add shadow or to outline your text.
  2. Backdrop box: perfect for creating mockups or Pinterest pins.
  3. Shapes, such as circles or squares, that I use to frame some of my text sections.
  4. Background effect for adding a colored background to a line of text (way much faster than using a shape!)
  5. Two-color letters: this is my favorite of all! So easy to do!

Here’s how I do my two-color letters!

Canva Tips & Hacks To Save More Time

Now, let’s talk about all the other little tips I use to save more time using Canva. Of course, the more you’ll use it, the faster you’ll get! Don’t be afraid to try and test; you’ll be surprised about all you can do! *If you have a favorite Canva tip, please use the comment box to share it! 😉

There’s no particular order; I use and love them all!

  • Folders to store all my images and designs
  • The Recently Used Elements (I sometimes use this more than folders to access elements I like; it’s much faster!)
  • Duplicate a design instead of starting from scratch by using the duplicate button located above your design. It will copy the page below. Then, play with it a little. This ensures style and creates continuity for your brand.
  • Use the Position Button to center text or elements
  • Duplicate a line and change the text and fonts or size instead of clicking on the Add Text button
  • Use the handles to enlarge the text
  • Tweak my images: I have an article on How to Create Images Using Canva, where I share tons of tips to save time creating images for your blog; I suggest you read it! 😉
  • Copy an element and move it around
  • Use keywords to find images and elements
  • Reuse old content and tweak it a little!
  • Use the Filters when choosing an element. You can filter by color, or you can select the Cut-Out-Only to see only images with no background.
  • Set up your “Brand Kit.” Select your favorite fonts and colors to match your brand style (for Canva Pro users only!)

How To Group Elements In Canva

Hmm… why should you group elements in Canva? ha! ha! To save time, of course!

Grouping elements or text lines will help you move them faster. It will also help you align lines of text or other parts of your design.

Now, how do you group elements? This is so, so easy!!

  1. Press shift and click on all the parts you want to group.
  2. Then, click on the Group Button.

There you go! Your elements are now grouped! Easy peasy, isn’t it?

To ungroup them, simply hit the Ungroup Button.

**Having a good Blog Plan will also make you save a LOT of time!! Why not use mine? 🙂 I have used it since the beginning and just couldn’t live without it!

How To Download Your Canva Design To Save Time

Now it’s time to add all those fabulous designs you created to your blog posts! Yay!!

But be careful! You don’t want to slow down your website, don’t you?

Having too many or too large images can affect the speed of our sites, so to ensure your visitors have a great experience visiting your blog, make sure your images are optimized.

Here’s what I do. I don’t know if there are better ways, but this one works well for me! If you have another way to download your images, please share it in the comments below! 😉

  1. Click on the Share button in the top right corner.
  2. Scroll down and select Download
  3. Select the File Type JPG
  4. Select the pages you want to download ( I always download only one page at a time; I find it easier to store them afterward)
  5. Click on Done
  6. And then click on Download
  7. Et voila! This image is now in your Download File.

That was easy, right? 🙂 Now, make sure you give a name to your image before you insert it into your blog post or move it to a file.

**To make sure my images are well optimized, I always use Tiny PNG to compress all my images before I add them to my posts. That way, I’m sure not to slow down my website.* Tiny PNG is free, but you can upgrade to the Pro Version. It cost a few dollars, but it is worth it! Tiny Pro allows you to compress bigger or larger images 😉

Canva Social Media Scheduler

Is Canva good for content scheduling?

Does Canva have social media calendar templates?

Hmm… to tell you the truth, I haven’t tried it yet! You now know that I’m a newbie with social media! ha! ha! I have to learn!! NOW!

But here’s what Canva says about it.

Canva has a built-in content calendar so you can plan and schedule your social posts ahead of time to publish directly from the platform – simply create, set, and Canva will do the rest. And if you need to pause a post, you can do it without reloading the file.

So please please, if you are using Canva to schedule your content, tell me about it in the comments! I desperately need to know!!
