Guess what? I made it!! And I am so, so proud!! 😊

So I decided to write that post to brag a little, ha! ha!

Seriously, I wanted to tell you so you know that it’s possible to rank on Google’s first page, even if you are 50+ years old.

I wanted to share how I got my listings on the first page of Google because I’m sure you want to know how to get on the first page of Google in 24 hours too! OK, maybe a little longer than 24 hours; I’m not too sure because I checked only after a week or two, but it still was kind of fast! 😉

I can’t describe how I felt when I saw my small blog there! Actually, I even saw two of my posts rank number 4 and 5 on the same page! What?! Me?! Oh, my gush! I was shocked! And happy, and so proud of myself!! All that work finally pays off! Now, I want you to feel the same. 😊

Just imagine if each of us, the older bloggers, were ranking on the first page of Google. Imagine how strong our voice would be!

Am I dreaming? Oh no, I don’t think so!

We all have so many things to say, so much knowledge to share… It’s time to learn SEO and outrank all of these young bloggers. Let’s prove to them that if they can do it, so can we!!

But first, why is it so important to show up on Google’s first page?

Because you want your posts to be found. You want people to read all that great content you wrote.

Did you know that most people never scroll past the first page of a Google search? Actually, 75 % of Google’s users never go on page 2 or 3. Wow! Do I need to add something here?

If you want traffic to your website, better be on page #1!!

So, is it possible to rank #1 on Google? The answer is YES! If I could make it to Google’s first page, so can you!! 😉

Of course, you will have to use a good SEO strategy ( more about SEO in a minute! ). Find the right keywords and add them to your wonderful posts… But believe me; it will quickly become a habit, like second nature.

What I’ve Done To Rank On Google’s First Page

SEO, SEO, SEO! It’s the key to ranking on Google’s first page. Period!

There’s no other trick!

But just like any other new blogger, I didn’t know much about SEO when I started my blog. Of course, I knew it existed, I knew it was important, but I didn’t know how to apply it.

I was reading everything I could about it, but there is so much info out there! So many gurus and so many different ways to explain SEO. Phew! I was so confused! And to tell you the truth, I had not much time to dedicate to learning that complicated thing! 🙁

But luckily, I discovered an e-book, I should say a fabulous e-book about SEO, and I finally found THE info I was looking for! I read that book a few times, and I now understand SEO! Yay!! And guess what? SEO is not as complicated as I thought.

So the book that changed my blogging life is Easy On-Page Seo by Debbie Gartner. Debbie explains SEO like no one! If I could learn it from her, so can you!

But wait, she also has a second book called Easy Backlinks For SEO to learn about what to do after you publish a post to make sure it ranks high in Google’s search. She teaches us good practice so our blog/website has more authority, which helps it rank higher.

I know, all that sounds a bit scary, but believe me, it isn’t! After reading these books, just like me, you will finally understand E-VERY-THING!! And SEO will become crystal clear!

Just imagine how many blog posts and articles are written each day. I would roughly say millions of posts! Better do everything you can to stand out! You want people to read your posts, right?

Having a good SEO practice will help Google’s crawlers find your articles faster and propose them to those who search for them. Remember that most people never go further than the first page to find the answer they’re looking for.

No matter how great your posts are, believe me; no one will ever see them if you don’t use ON-Page SEO!

I use a great Simple Blog Plan to organize each of my posts; feel free to use it too! I’m sure it will help you as much as it helps me! I’ve been using this blog plan since the beginning and couldn’t live without it!

Keywords Are Essential To SEO

Keywords and keyphrases are so, so important!

How people will make their searches and queries?

Which words will they use to search on Google? Or what phrase or combination of words will they type?

See? These are keywords! The base of SEO 😉

The trick here is to try as many word combinations as you can to see the result of your queries. Once you have found them, add these keywords to your blog posts. As much as you can, but always make sure that it makes sense for your readers. You don’t want them to feel like they are reading a list of words without learning anything! Avoid keyword stuffing 😉

Am I an SEO expert? Oh, my gush! Of course not! And I’m not pretending to be one, either!

Even though I’ve learned a lot and am improving with each new post, I’d never dare teach it to you! I’d rather let a real expert do it!

And that expert is Debbie Gartner… My SEO guru! And I highly recommend you read her books too. Everything I’ve learned about SEO comes from her two books. and believe me, they’re worth every penny I paid for them!

How Long Does It Take To Get A 1st Page’s Google Ranking?

If only I knew! ha! ha!

To tell you the truth, the answer is it depends!

I never checked right away (ha! ha! but now I will!!) because, to me, ranking on Google’s first page was kind of a dream. You know, we all dream about it, but in fact, it rarely happens… well, I’m so happy to say that I was totally wrong!! It does happen!!

There are many factors for ranking on Google’s first page. Site authority, keywording, and the popularity of the chosen topic are only some of them.

What we need to know is that Google will always propose first what it thinks will answer the query the best.

So, make sure you have well-structured posts to make it easier for Google’s crawlers to find answers. And always write great content and do your research well so you add as much info as possible to your blog posts.

And the most important thing, make sure each of your new posts is indexed to the Google Search Console! 😉 (Again, I learned all that in Debbies’ books!)

Why You Should Have A Good SEO Strategy Right From The Start

Because SEO is everything! No SEO, no chance to rank on the first page of Google!

It’s that simple!

I’ve always wondered why doesn’t my website show up first on Google… or at least at the bottom of the first page… ha! ha! Or even on the five first pages! I was working so hard; it has to show somewhere, right? Then I realized that it was because of SEO. My posts were not SEO optimized, not at all! It was time to learn it. And thank God, it works! 😊

Using a good SEO strategy right from the start will also save you time… I mean, a lot of time!

I now have to review each of my old posts and rewrite them almost entirely. What a waste of time! But now that I know what to do, I want to make sure that each one is optimized for SEO. And believe me; I’d rather spend my precious time on something else! Oh well…lesson now learned!

Choose The Right Topic To Increase Google’s Ranking

When the time comes to find new blog topics, always put yourself in your reader’s shoes.

What do they want to read? What do they want to learn from you?

Obviously, writing posts on a popular topic will help you rank higher. But, the more competition, the more difficult it would be. So, try to be more specific, more “niche down”, if you know what I mean. Check out this post where I help you find post content your readers will enjoy reading! I’m sure you’ll get tons of ideas there!

As an example, I wrote a post about How to Start A Blog at 50+, and I rank on Google’s first page for it. But if my title had been “How to Start a Blog”, I wouldn’t make it! My post would probably show on the thirtieth page or even further on… and of course, no one would ever see it! So, by being more precise, I’ve increased my chances of being on the first page. Easy, right?

When you make a query, Google shows you some results but also shows you two important sections on the first page. And these are great places to find blog post ideas.

Related Search…

The second section you should look at is the “Related Search,” usually at the bottom of the page or sometimes on page two. This is also a great place to find topics that people search for.

Always remember to write content that people really want to read!

What I Wish I’d Done Before To Rank Higher On Google

Things go fast when we start our blog, and we have tons of things to learn. It’s sometimes hard to prioritize one thing over another.

Of course, I don’t regret all the time I spent learning these new things, but…

I wish I’d:

Discovered Debbies’ books earlier
Know more about the importance of SEO
Learn more about Keywords and Keywording
Learn earlier about how to make a Table Of Content
Know more about how to well organize my posts ( the way Google crawlers like them!)
Learn earlier how to find the right topic ideas
Know sooner how to choose the perfect titles and URLs for my posts

Yes, these are the things I wish I had known before. But you know what? I don’t mind! Learning is my favorite part of blogging! I just love being an old blogger, and no matter how long it takes to learn a new thing, I enjoy each second I spend on my website!! 😊
