Why Writing a Well-Structured Post is Essential

Of course, just like you, I want my posts to be viral. I want tons of clicks and tons of traffic too!… But more importantly, I want my readers to love my posts!

No matter if I don’t always get the traffic I wish I had. When I read a comment or receive an email from one of my readers, well, it makes my day! 😊 That’s why we are blogging, right?

So I try to make my posts as easy to read as possible so people read them to the end!

Ok now, what makes a well-structured blog post?

A well-structured post has to be well-organized; it makes sense, right?

It needs a great intro, sections, sub-sections to help our readers navigate through it, and a conclusion. Easy, right? Well… not always! ha! ha!

Let’s find out what else we can do to write the perfect blog post every time!

What To Do Before Writing A Post

Yes, there are a few actions to take before writing your posts.

First, ask yourself, what problem do you want to solve? What questions would you like to answer? When people are making research online, it usually is to solve a problem they have. They like to know what others do and how they solve this problem. Of course, if you can help them solve their problem, chances are they will stick to your website to find out what else you can do for them.

After all, blogging is all about helping others!😉

Research: Do a  ton of research! You want to give as much info as possible to your readers. You want them to find all the answers in this one single post!… and if there is too much info, you can make a post series on that topic and add links from one to the others. It will be easy for your readers to find what they are looking for, and they will spend more time on your blog… we call that a win-win situation, right? 😉

Keywords research: I just can’t tell how keywords are important! You want your posts to be found, right? Remember that people are doing research on the web using keywords. Google’s crawlers use keywords to determine what article should show up. (More about it in a few minutes.)

Check what other bloggers have written on that topic: It’s always good to know what other bloggers in your niche are writing. Is there additional information you can give to your readers or write from a different angle to present the solution to their problem?

Make sure people are searching for that topic:  Do research on Google and Pinterest to see what shows up. If there are already articles on that topic, good for you! It means there is interest in it, so there are more chances for your post to be read! Now, all you have to do is write a better article! ha! ha! easy right?

Organize your information and spread it into sections and sub-sections: Not only will it makes your posts easy to read, but it will also help you write faster! (more to come about it soon! 😉)

And…

→I also like to find future post ideas. Posts I could write related to this one. To do so, I always use my Simple Blog Planner. I’ve been using it since I started, and I just love it! So, if, just like me, you like things to be well organized, this is for you! Grab your free copy of my Simple Blog Planner today! I’m sure you will like it too!

Depending on the topic, I sometimes find out that I have enough info to write a post series or condense everything in one single post.

How To Write Blog Post Titles

Why is a great title so important? Because you want people to click on your article!

So, a good blog post title should…

  • Contains Keywords (more about it in a minute)
  • Contains Power Words
  • Should be original
  • Well explain what your post is about

The title must capture your future reader’s attention so they want to click on it.

But it also needs to contain keywords so M. Google knows when to propose it. You want your posts to rank as higher as possible, right? Having your post ranking on the first page when people make a query is exactly where you want to stand! 😉 The higher you rank, the more organic traffic you’ll get!

*I use a fabulous free tool to help me find great post titles. It’s called Write Better Headlines from CoSchedule. If you don’t know about it yet, I suggest you give it a try! They offer a paid version, but the free one is all you need as a new blogger.

The Anatomy Of A Blog Post

There are four key elements to a good blog post.

  1. The title: A good title has to grab the reader’s attention. It also has to be original and well describe what your post is about.
  2. The introduction: The intro will hook the reader, draw them in, and set up the post.
  3. The main body: The body is the “meat and potatoes” of your post. It works through a logical sequence of points, holding the reader’s attention. You will use sections and sub-sections to organize your text and info.
  4. The conclusion: A good conclusion will end the post decisively and call the reader to take action. It could also be a recap of the post to make sure your readers have the main points of your article before leaving.

So, that’s the anatomy of a good blog post. Of course, you will add a bit more to entertain your readers! 🙂

Steps On How To Write Blog Posts Faster And Easier

how to write blog post faster.

Here I will share how I write my posts.

Not only does this method make me save time, but it also makes writing easier.

So, as I said earlier, I like to do my research first. Once I have my topic, and my keywords and know what questions I want to answer, I draw the outline of my post.

I like to start by choosing all my section titles, the main points I want to discuss, or all other crucial info. I often use the answer to a question as a section or sub-section title. And I also make sure to include keywords in every title! ( remember? SEO matter… )

Once I set that layout up, I just fill in the blanks with all the great info I want to share! 😊 Pretty easy!

When I finish my post, I then make my table of content. I find it easier to work that way, but it’s totally up to you to choose what works best for you.

The Look Of A Blog Post

Of course, a blog post should look good!

But it also has to look nice and neat. Not too cluttered, so your readers enjoy reading it.

Sections and sub-sections will make reading easier, while images will keep your readers attention until the end.

It’s ok to add ads, but please, don’t submerge your post under ads! It’s very annoying and won’t give a good experience to your readers. Keep in mind that you want them to stay on your site as long as possible… which is also good for SEO 😉

Have a look at this article about making your blog ready for traffic; I’m sure you’ll find tons of great ideas there for making the most of all the new traffic you’ll get to your blog!! Let’s find out if your blog is ready for traffic! 😊

How Long Should A Blog Post Be?

That is a question people often ask me. The answer is… it depends! I know it’s not exactly the answer you expected! 🤔 But it’s the truth!

Depending on the topic and the info you want to share, your posts could be longer or shorter.

I suggest you look at what other bloggers in your niche wrote on that same topic and try to make it a little longer ( but only if you have more specific info to add). Generally, a good blog post is between 1500 and 3500 words.

I tend to write long posts. Even if I try really hard to make them shorter, it seems like I just can’t never stop! ha! ha!

Seriously, a post should be long enough to contain all the details and explanations you need to add. If it’s 1300 words, it’s fine! Not everybody likes to read long articles anyway!

How to Write Different Types of Blog Posts

There are many different types of posts you can write to add variety to your blog. Some might get more love from readers than others. It’s always good to try a few different ones to find out what works best for you and your audience.

The most popular ones are:

How To Posts:

These are one of the most popular posts. People usually do research to learn about something or how to do something. So, if you’re an expert, it’s time to show the world how to become an expert too!

Answer The Why Posts:

When you don’t know what to write about, a good trick is to pick the most asked question and write a post about it. People always want to know about the whys! Why this? Why that? The why-type of post always does well!

Lists Posts:

List posts are the best to bring traffic to your blog. This is one of the most common types of blog posts. We see them everywhere.  Some of these are short and sweet, while others are a bit longer… or a lot longer! Some examples: 10 summer party drinks, 75 blogging niche ideas, or 500 ways to save money… as you see, it’s unlimited! You can make a List Post about anything!

Long-Form Blog Posts:

Well, well… Guess what? A long-form blog post is a long article! ha! ha! But be careful; it also has to be well-researched and full of value for your readers. Add tutorials, graphics, charts, and anything that will help your visitors.

Review Posts:

These are great! You first have to select a product related to your niche. After testing it, you write a post on it. It has to be an honest review. Even if you’re not a big fan of this product, you have to say it. People will appreciate that you tell the truth and why you do or do not recommend it.

Comparison Posts:

It’s kind of a review post, but this time, you compare two products. Which one is better and why. Which one is more effective or more cost-effective? You know, any comments that can help people make their choice. These kinds of posts are very popular too.

And some more blog post ideas!!

Personal Stories:

Personal stories are good for building your audience and increasing engagement. Readers tend to leave more comments too (which is good for SEO! 😉). You can talk about anything you want but try to find a story that could help others. Share a personal story you learned from, something you know your readers will learn from too. Could be sad, a bad story or a funny one, up to you to choose!

Interview Posts:

These are very popular, and people love them. Find a few successful bloggers or entrepreneurs in your niche. Prepare a list of questions and email it to the interviewee. Make sure you give them a time frame to answer and a guideline to follow. Once you collected all the answers, write your post and publish it. Don’t forget to send an email to thank them and of course, send them the link to your post so they can share it with their readers too 😊

Controversial Posts:

I swear, I will never do that kind of post! But others absolutely love them! If you like to shake trees, this is for you!

Round-Up Posts:

There are leaders and experts in every niche. Make a blog post about the top experts in this niche. Tell your readers why you like them and what you learned from them. Then add links to their blog so your readers can discover them too. And of course, don’t forget to send the experts an email so they know that they are mentioned in your post and the link to your post.

A round-up post can also be the best tips from different experts to do something or the best recipes from some famous food bloggers. It all depends on your niche and what you feel like writing.

Yes, it’s a bit of research, but it’s very fun to write! And you will make some new blogging friends too! 😊

Blog Series:

These are fantastic ways to increase traffic to your blog and give real expertise on some topics. A blog series is the perfect way to write different posts on one main topic. Break your main idea into small parts and create a post with each of these parts. Finally, don’t forget to add internal links to each of these posts so your readers can see them all. If they like the first post they read, chances are they will read all of them! They will stay longer on your website…which is good for SEO! 😉

Wow! That was a lot of great ideas, wasn’t it?
