How to host kids when you don’t have any. The best solutions and ideas to keep children busy and quiet at your next dinner party!

Did you say busy AND quiet?! ha! ha! Yes!!

When you have no kids to entertain other kids, you must be creative to keep children busy and calm.

After all, we can’t always ban children from our dinner parties!

But if you don’t want them running around all night, you have to plan a little. And we don’t want to entertain them all evening long either, after all; it’s not a kid’s party…

The trick?

Keep. Them. Busy! 😉

Of course, your house is probably not kids friendly. And, of course, you have no playroom or many toys and games for them…But no worries! There are many ways to keep the children busy and quiet…for a few hours!

Some parents think about bringing games to entertain their kids, but some others don’t. So, better be ready!

Before I share my favorite tool of all, the one that saved many of my dinner parties, let’s talk about a few things you could do to make your young guests happy. Believe me, their parents will be pleased you thought about their little loved ones!

But…

How to host kids when you have none!…A few ideas…

These are the good old classic ones. I tried them many times, and you probably already tested them too, so I won’t spend hours here.

We’ll do just a little recap of the 5 most popular ones… and talk about the “But…”

For now, feel free to save this so you can come back to it at any time 😉

a fun game to entertain kids

 Stay tuned!

I will share my fabulous tool right after…

Ready? Let’s jump into it!

1-Kid’s movie night:

The good old classic one! A good movie will always keep kids calm and quiet. And there are so many good ones to choose from.

…But a good movie is sometimes not enough. And, if the only TV is where you stand with your guests… mmm…

2-Kids-only area:

A corner of the room could be dedicated to the “Kids-Only Zone.” Add a “No Adults Allowed” sign to make it more real. Kids absolutely love that! They will feel less excluded from the “grown-up” party.

…But it takes room…

3-Craft table:

Browse Pinterest to find ideas and small projects they could make. Kraft paper, colored pencils, glue, and a few craft items should be enough. That is a fabulous idea!

…But you might need more room…

4-Board games:

So fun! Children always like to play and discover new games.

…But if there are only one or two kids? And let’s say they are not the same age? It might be hard to find games that will be fun for both…

5-Dress up box:

I like that one a lot! Any kid likes to dress up and pretend he is someone else. That is a lot of fun. You can use your old clothes and ask your guests to bring some too. Any hat, scarf, high-hill shoes, or dress will do! Think about providing a mirror too. 😉

… But it can quickly turn into a noisy thing!

As you can see, not all of these options could work for you!

I tried them all, and most of the time, it turned into a kid’s party. But remember that our goal is to spend a quiet night with our grown-up friends!

I had to find a better solution!

How to host kids when you have none!…My Solution!

Good news! I found a better solution!

I slowly started to create activity books for my friend’s children. You know, activities that would really keep the kids busy, calm, and quiet…for hours!

And it works! All kids like my activity books so much!

I have a few coloring books and some other books that are a mix of questions to answer and coloring images.

But my favorite activity book (and the most popular one!) is by far the Are You A Good Detective one! All kids absolutely love it! 😊 Which makes me really happy and proud!… And their parents keep asking me for a copy so they can bring it whenever they are invited somewhere!

And guess what?

This activity book is now available for everyone!

Are you a good detective/activity book for kids

A 50-Page Mission that kids love… and parents too because it keeps their children calm and quiet for hours! 😉

Creating these little books was the best idea I ever had! You will see these kids’ activity books right here!

Some are for younger ones, while others are great for 7-11 years old. They also work well even if you host only one child.

Sometimes, all the kids will work on it as a team, while other nights; they prefer to have one copy each. It’s really up to them! Both ways work perfectly, anyway!

Working as a team is perfect when you have a mix of younger and older kids. The oldest ones can be in charge and help the little ones… No matter how they use it, they always have a lot of fun!

How to host kids when you have none!… To Conclude

One more tip…

If you’re a little stressed out about hosting many kids, feel free to offer a buffet. I love buffets! And I love easy buffet recipes! It’s much easier to serve, and it will also be easy for parents to keep an eye on their little ones.

As you can see, hosting kids could be a lot of fun! Don’t ever hold back again on sending invitations to some friends with kids.
