How to keep your party under control…

Make Your House Party-Friendly

Making your house party-friendly is a must!

Not only will it makes your friends welcome, but it will also help you stay on top of everything. 😉Don’t forget that the more things you’ll control, the lower your stress level will be!

  • Turn on the lights in each room that you’ll use. Usually, people don’t go where the lights are off
  • Close a few doors, just in case, especially if there are young kids. Most people are shy to open a door
  • Make room in your entrance closet for coats and boots. It will look cleaner than piling them on a bed, and people won’t have to go everywhere in your house…you prefer to keep an eye on all of your guests.
  • Don’t hesitate to remove some furniture, plants, or big trinkets if they block traffic. Access will be easier, and it’s always better if all can stand in the same room.
  • Same with the carpets: some can be dangerous or just in the wrong place once you move some furniture. So, better take them away for now
  • Assign a place for empty bottles and glasses, ideally not on your kitchen countertops! Don’t let things pile up. Otherwise, it will quickly look like a battleground!
  • Having a trash can insight will help too… I know, not always the prettiest thing, but it takes what it takes!
  • If you plan to use coolers for beverages, leave one or two towels beside them. Your guests will be able to dry what they took out from the cooler… which will avoid puddles on your floor and make it safer too 🙂
  • Try to set a table with all you’ll need for drinks: kind of a bar area. Way much easier to keep track of what’s missing. You will quickly know if you’re out of something and needs to be refilled
  • Make sure to remove all your precious things, or at least move them to another area. It would be sad to see one of your guests accidentally break your antique vase… just imagine how guilty he would feel… and how sad you would be 🙁

Set Up Your Kitchen For Parties

  • Remove from your countertops all you won’t need. Small appliances, plants, trinkets… I mean everything! You’ll need every square inch for your meal!
  • Your kitchen will be your headquarter for the evening; it has to be clean and functional at all times.  Again, don’t pile up things, or you will quickly lose control. Try to clean as much as possible as you go
  • For some reason, people like to stand in the kitchen…and I do like it too, but make sure you have enough room to circulate when the time to serve dinner comes. Don’t feel guilty about asking them to move to another room… unless you need their help!  😊
  • Try to set your table before your guests arrive. You will save time but, most of all, you will be sure not to forget anything!
  • Having the table already set up will also kind of reserve the space. People won’t stand in this area before dinner…that will make things easier at dinner time: there is always someone that takes more time to join the rest of the crowd at the table…traffic will be more fluent if no one stands around the table.

Keep Your Party Meal Under Control Too!

Of course, our meal is usually our main focus. These are some great tips to ensure everything goes smoothly.

  • Choose as many things as possible that you can prepare in advance. The fewer last-minute things to do, the better.
  • Make a list ( love that word!! 😄 ) of your menu so you don’t forget anything. I personally like to stick it inside of a cabinet door. It’s convenient, easy to access, but it doesn’t show.
  • If a plate needs to be cooked, add a note beside with cooking time and oven temperature…that will help a lot!
  • I also like to have everything in the right cooking pan. I can easily take it out from the fridge and slide it right into the oven! Way much faster!
  • Writing cooking time and oven degrees directly on each dish is very convenient too. You might be busy chatting or doing something else, so that will assure that you don’t miss anything.
  • Don’t hesitate to ask for help to serve dinner or clean the table between each course. There is always someone ready to help!
  • Again, try to quickly put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher to avoid messy countertops… you’ll need room to finish serving your dinner.
  • Working in a clean, neat place is always less stressful!!
  • Bringing casseroles and serving plates directly to the center of the table is always a good option. It looks great, and everyone can choose what they like… but most of all, it will be much easier for you!
  • Make sure that everything you’ll need is on the table: bread and butter, salt and pepper, wine, water, utensils, and serving spoons…that way, you won’t need to run to the kitchen to get something every two minutes!  😉

Make The Washroom Party-Friendly

I know, talking about the washroom is not very sexy, but how important this is!

Most are your guests are respectful, but some are not. And it’s your responsibility to ensure the washroom is in good shape all evening long. So, here are a few tricks to help you keep control of your washroom.

  • Make sure you have extra toilet paper. Put a few extra rolls in a nice box or basket where all can see it
  • Having extra hand towels is also a good idea…they usually get wet pretty quickly
  • Try to visit the washroom a few times during the evening to make sure that all is clean and that there is still enough toilet paper
  • A scenting plug-in is a must in the washroom…I don’t think you need any explanation here!!  ha! ha!

We all know that hosting a party can sometimes be…let’s say, different! 😉 But there are many ways to host kids and still keep your party under control!

  • Try to have a separate space for them. Of course, close enough so their parents can keep an eye on them, but far enough so they can have fun too
  • You don’t want them to play right in the middle of the room…
  • Try to have a few games so they can play. New or different toys are always nice and should keep them busy for a while
  • But it’s important to keep in mind that you don’t have to babysit all evening! You won’t have time for that!! It’s their parent’s responsibility to check on them and make sure that all is ok
  • Also, try to have a few special snacks for them. That will help them wait for dinner… and usually, when they are busy eating, they’re happy!…and quiet! 😊

How To Keep Your Party Under Control…More Tips!

  • Let your neighbors know about your party. In addition to being very respectful, it will, perhaps, avoid unpleasant surprises… you don’t want to see the police ring the door to end your party because neighbors find you too noisy!
  • Tell your guests where to park. It will be easier for them, and no neighbors will complain
  • If it’s a surprise party, make sure that your guests respect the arrival time. Feel free to send them a little reminder a few days before
  • If you ordered food, cake, or balloons, confirm the order a few days before. That will allow you time to think about a B-plan if they ever forget you!
